After the adventure to High River, we came back to Calgary, hit up a Dollarama for supplies and headed back to our friend, Sarah’s parents’ house to do some crafting. I, of course, was already hungry.
Sometimes I find afternoon tea to be very filling, but most times, I’m still pretty hungry by the end of it. So what did we decided to do? After all that driving? Order in of course!
Having never tried Jollibee and having mentioned it to Sarah, she decided that we needed to immediately rectify that.
We ordered the 10 piece bucket with extra gravy, jolly spaghetti, small fries, peach mango pies, and pineapple quencher.
Before ordering, Sarah warned me (multiple times) that the spaghetti was nothing like Italian spaghetti or any spaghetti I might be familiar with and that the Filipino style spaghetti definitely was a lot sweeter, almost like it had a ketchup based sauce. Having heard that before and having tried spaghetti in Japan, I assured her I was prepared for whatever this ended up being.
Honestly, I liked it. Could I eat it repeatedly like I do with pasta normally? Probably not, but it was definitely better than the pasta that I had in Japan. It even had little hot dogs/ sausages cut up in it. The only thing that would’ve made it better was if it was a little spicy too.
The chicken was really good too. The batter may not as good (and crunchy) as Korean Fried Chicken, but the meat was just as juicy and tender. That may be in part due to the fact that it got a little less crunchy in the transport from the restaurant to the house. Next time I want to try the spicy ones.
What wasn’t good were the fries. Sarah did warn me but I still wanted them anyways. So I just drowned them in the gravy, which as Sarah said was AMAZING. I dipped a lot of chicken in that too. I think I “drank” half a container of gravy on my own!
After I had finished the savoury portion of my meal, I moved onto the dessert. The filling of the peach mango pie was molten! As such, I ended up with a lot of it all over my face and chin and ultimately, a bit on my shirt too, but it was so worth it. It was actually so good. I do wish it had a few more fruit chunks in it but other than that it was great.
We also got the Pineapple Quencher at Sarah’s recommendation. Given that I was slightly dehydrated and it was really quite good, I drank this way too fast. It did taste a little like fake pineapple but not in too disgusting of a way.
My rating is as follows:
Service: 3.5/5
The delivery was pretty quick, but it was a little annoying that the delivery driver didn’t ring the doorbell or knock after delivering the order so the order did end up sitting outside a little (after having sat in the covered bucket in heat bag) compromising the integrity of the crunch on the chicken.
Food: 4/5
Everything was just very well done. It was still hot when it arrived and tasted quite good.
Price: 3.5/5
The price of the bucket is comparable to places like Wow Chicken and KFC, maybe a little bit more expensive. Wow Chicken doesn’t really have family sized combos but a “bucket” of chicken from Wow is a lot more than getting a standalone bucket of chicken from Jolibee. KFC, however, does have family combos and it comes off feeling like it’s cheaper as it comes with three large sides for less than the Jolibee Bucket Treat B (I think this is the one we got).
